Brown leather covered boards, five ring gilt stamped spine, marbled end papers. Fine. 240 pp. pp. Some wear at head of spine and rubbing to spine, else Fine. Marbled edged pages pristine - clean, tight and bright. Very well preserved copy and uncommon in leather. Bigelow was a physician and botanist of whom Oliver Wendall Holmes once said his "Discourse on Self-Limited Diseases" (1835) exerted more influence on medical practice in America than any other work that had been published in this country." Parodies and imitations of Bryant, Longfellow, Lowell, Holmes, and others.
